Saint Silouan the Athonite (c. 1930)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

These prayers are excerpts from one of St Silouan\u2019s writings, known as \u201cYearning for God.\u201d[1]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

Prayer of St Silouan the Athonite for Humility<\/h5>\n

O Lord, grant me Your spirit of humility
\nThat I lose not Your grace again,
\nAnd weep for it as Adam wept for paradise and for God.<\/p>\n

O Lord, grant me to love You alone. You created me,
\nYou enlightened me through holy baptism,
\nYou forgive my sins and allow me to partake of Your most pure body and Blood.
\nEnable me at all times to dwell in You.
\nO Lord, grant unto us the repentance of Adam, and Your holy humility.<\/p>\n

O merciful Lord, Enlighten Your people that they may know You;
\nThat they may know how You love us.<\/p>\n

Prayer of St Silouan the Athonite for the Holy Spirit<\/h2>\n

O merciful Lord, bestow Your grace on all the peoples of the earth, that they may know You;
\nFor without Your Holy Spirit man cannot know You and conceive of Your love.<\/p>\n

O Lord, send down on us Your Holy Spirit,
\nFor knowledge of You and all that relates unto You comes solely through the Holy Spirit,
\nWhom in the beginning You gave unto Adam,
\nAnd after him to the holy prophets,
\nAnd then to Christian people.<\/p>\n

O Lord, let all Your peoples discern Your love,
\nAnd the sweetness of the Holy Spirit,
\nThat men may forget the sorrows of this world,
\nAnd forsake all that is evil,
\nAnd cling unto You in love, and live in peace,
\nDoing Your will to Your glory.<\/p>\n

O Lord, vouchsafe unto us the gift of the Holy Spirit,
\nThat we may perceive Your glory,
\nAnd live on earth in peace and love.
\nAnd let there be neither malice, nor wars or enemies,
\nBut may love alone reign,
\nAnd there will be no need of armies, or prisons,
\nAnd life will be easy for everyone on earth.<\/p>\n

I pray You, O merciful Lord,
\nFor all the peoples of the earth,
\nThat they may come to know You
\nBy the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n

Prayer of St Silouan the Athonite for our enemies.<\/h2>\n

O merciful Lord, by Your Holy Spirit teach us
\nTo love our enemies, and pray for them with tears.<\/p>\n

O Lord, send down Your Holy Spirit on earth
\nThat all nations may know You, and learn Your love.<\/p>\n

O Lord, as You Yourself prayed for Your enemies,
\nSo teach us, too, by Your Holy Spirit, to love our enemies.<\/p>\n

O Lord, all peoples are the work of Your hands.
\nTurn them from enmity and malice to repentance,
\nThat all may know Your love.<\/p>\n

Or Lord, You commanded us to love our enemies,
\nBut it is hard for us sinners, if Your grace be not with us.<\/p>\n

O Lord, pour down Your grace upon the earth.
\nLet all the nations of the earth come to know Your love;
\nTo know that You love us with a mother\u2019s love,
\nAnd more than a mother\u2019s love,
\nFor even a mother may be forgetful of her children,
\nBut You never forget,
\nBecause Your love for Your creation is boundless,
\nAnd love cannot forget.<\/p>\n

O merciful Lord, by the riches of Your mercy, save all peoples.<\/p>\n

Thanksgiving Prayer of St Silouan the Athonite<\/h2>\n

What shall I render unto You, O Lord?<\/p>\n

You, O merciful One, raised my soul from sin,
\nAnd gave me to know Your mercy towards me,
\nAnd my heart fell captive to You,
\nAnd reaches unceasingly toward You, my Light.<\/p>\n

What shall I render unto You, O Lord?<\/p>\n

You raised my soul to love You and to love my neighbor,
\nAnd You gave me tears to pray for the whole world.<\/p>\n

Prayer of St Silouan the Athonite for Cleansing and Mercy<\/h2>\n

Come and take up Your abode, and cleanse me of my sins.
\nFrom the heights of Your glory You see how my soul yearns after You.
\nForsake not Your servant.
\nHear me as I cry unto You like the Prophet David:
\n\u201cHave mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness.\u201d<\/p>\n
